To create a sense of community spirit and belonging, and to extend a warm welcome to new home/landowners in the town of Jay, the Jay Focus Group has established the Jay Welcome Bag project. We send postcards inviting the new home/landowners to come to town hall (so they know where it is!), present the postcard to the town clerk (so they know who she is!) and pick up their welcome bag. This bag includes items such as a slurp of syrup, a coupon for a free coffee at the Jay Country Store, our Jay Annual Report, information about Green Up Day and a Green Up Bag, the Jay Community Recreational Centre map, information on the Jay Focus Group, a Northland Journal and various area business cards. We consider this project a success, as more than 20% of those approximately 100 new folks came in and claimed their gift. Our Town Clerk has used the time to remind folks about dog licensing, voter registration, etc.
The Jay Focus Group collaborates with the Town of Jay Green Up Day Coordinator, Sally Rivard, to assist in publicity, and in providing snacks and other support as needed.

The Jay Community Recreational Centre (JCRC), originally called the Jay Land Trust, hosts an annual trail cleanup day at which Jay Focus Group members provide support in registration, food, water, snack distribution
and trail clean up. The Jay Focus Group also supports the JCRC with an annual donation and as a conduit to grants.
